Letting maintenance into the server room unsupervised was a mistake.

Maintenance blowing out a UPS by plugging equipment into it was also a mistake.

Which was the bigger mistake?

Both seem like major oversights,.... but it's a tough call!

While letting maintenance in unsupervised could lead to a series of unintentional errors,... blowing out a #UPS might have a bigger impact on the entire system's stability.

What do you think, are you thinking that #mistake more costly than the other in the long run?

@Squads I think maintenance should have a better understanding of where it's safe to plug in equipment. There's plenty of other IT equipment around the building, including desktop UPS units and much more expensive equipment that's related to manufacturing, not IT. And they handle the wiring and maintenance of those machines.

But as an IT professional, I prefer not to let anyone into my server room without supervision. Including other IT pros.

@Squads One of the biggest, laziest mistakes people make is their complete lack of documenting things.
