4 I forgive you

5 I'm listening

6 RAID is not backup. Make offsite backups. Verify backup. Find out restore time. Otherwise, you got what we call Schrödinger backup

There doesn't appear to be a limit to the maximum size the KDE cursor can get when you shake it.

I find this hilarious. Is this an easter egg? When shaking my mouse cursor, I can get it to take up the whole screens height.

This is KDE Plasma 6.

Yeah I noticed that. I have a tendency to wave the cursor at something going "And then what's this over here in this area?" and it'll make the cursor grow, because I accidentally activate the Where's The Mouse feature, and then I noticed that sometimes it would grow to slightly different sizes, so...yeah if you keep shaking it it just keeps getting bigger. I can't seem to get it big enough to span my 1440p monitor's height, but it will span my 1080p monitor's height.

Is there a Linux media player that will save your place in a playlist if you switch to another playlist (or station or file) between plays?

in reply to Steven

Well I think that you can achieve that with MPV with using the save-position-on-quit in mpv.conf or using Shift+q when exiting the Video this does the job for me. Also you can search for a lua script that might be more useful like some of those:
[1] github.com/CogentRedTester/mpv…
[1.1] github.com/CogentRedTester/mpv…
[2] github.com/Eisa01/mpv-scripts?…
[3]( MPV script that periodically saves "watch later" data during playback ) gist.github.com/TheDrHax/fa2db…

I never have used them myself tough.

Hey, cis folks? And especially men? If you want some low effort trans ally actions you can take, put your pronouns everywhere.

Like, everywhere.

On here, in your profile. On your other social media. On your own website. On your GitHub profile. On your resume. In your email ‘From:' header. Your email signature. Your business cards, if you have those.

Basically everywhere you introduce yourself, in other words. Make it pervasive, normal, set an example.

Then take your privilege, wield it like both sword and shield, arguing for gender neutral language everywhere you can. Legal documents, the works.

Let us see you fight for it ✊🏻

Updated my personal blog theme to Attila. So I figured I should update my /Uses page as well. And I had quite a few updates to do there.

I'm still very behind on my blog, but I just dropped another post. Maybe I'll get back to weekly soon. Maybe.

I haven't seen Signal's new icon that everyone is complaining about. Can it really be that bad?
in reply to Steven

It's a pretty harsh shade of indigo. I'll get used to it though.
in reply to Campbell Jones

@Campbell Jones :budgie: And they didn't add the old color version to their alternate app icons?

I use Molly so mine is purple.

Every day I sit down I have to update my system before working. I just can't function knowing there are out-of-date packages.

For the avoidance of doubt: nothing changes. MAGA is still a hate cult. Climate change is still real. Earth is still round. Vaccines are still effective. Trans and non-binary people are valid. Women are people. Black lives matter. Love is love. No person is illegal. Hold your ground. Double down.

I've typed this Bitlocker recovery key so many times I've nearly memorized it.

Just turned off all desktop effects in Plasma on Fedora 41. Something is making my computer act sluggish on effects, and I'm not in love with it. Let's see if this helps.

We’ve improved private group video calls in Signal with new features, incl. call links.

Create a link that anyone on Signal can use to join a group call *without* having to join a Signal group chat first

I just want my SMS support back. I've been hopping across half-a-dozen different free SMS apps that are either missing features or have those broken features. Everything just worked with Signal.

I also can't convince my friends to try Signal when I now don't use it.

I hate to say it, but this has caused me a bit of a headache today. Maybe I just need more caffeine.

My wife's WD_BLACK NVMe SSD is failing.

The support and RMA procedure is easy, albeit confusing.

But Western Digital/Sandisk is charging $25 non-refundable 'Convenience Fee' for an advanced RMA replacement. That's pretty sucky.

Over 24 hours later I finally got notification of the new drive shipping. I paid for two day, so that's at least 3.

Not really into football anymore, except with my wife at a brewery on a Sunday.

@CraftComputing I really appreciate the DS9 reference on your scam NVMe video thumbnail.

I am way, way behind on blogs. But I decided to drop the one that's been in draft for a month today, since Fedora 41 dropped.

This is awesome! 🎉 I just upgraded, but I still have the old terminal (not Ptyxis). Do I have to somehow change that manually or should I wait for another update?

Welp, created a Bluesky account to connect to my Friendica account ... so this is a test post.

So Firezone's billing system isn't setup for them to allow a trial period. Seems like quite the oversight.

Wow, this @sovtechfund fellowship looks great - if you live in Germany and are a maintainer of a widely used yet poorly funded open source project, they basically pay you to maintain it for a whole year at something pretty close to market rates, with the perks of being an employee like paid holidays and all the rest.

More info below.

Please look there before asking questions here. I don’t work for them, but I like what they do.

NGL, I really like paying for support. Especially for open source (and open core) products.

Forever grateful to Rsyninator's web command line generator, because even after more than 20 years as a sysadmin I still can't remember every command line switch of every program that I use, and this one makes rsync easy.
